Problem
A complex, high-speed manufacturing process with two main components: the extrusion process, creating complex shapes from a small amount of aluminum., and a multi-color, multi-pass printing on a 360 degree surface. More effective scheduling means better material planning (slugs to make cans) and quicker changeovers with better planning of tool sets.
Solution Description
Preactor 300 APS integrated with AccPac and other data sources developed in Access and Excel. EXAL later upgraded to P400 APS system.
Benefits
EXAL has reduced the changeover hours in Youngstown by 30%, which translates to increasing available capacity by 200,000 containers per month. Customer service levels, as measured by customer commit date to actual delivery, have improved from 80% to 97%, directly attributable to P300 system.
